I - Experts in private law proceedings including arbitration: how to convince the court to allow them, how to get the right ones and then ask the right questions
Saturday, 1 April, 10.00 - 11.30am
Aimed at all private client lawyers dealing in this area, this workshop, led by Charles Hale QC, Alex Verdan QC and Michael Edwards, Harry Nosworthy, Rachel Chisholm and Julia Townend, will be an interactive discussion on the use of experts in private law proceedings both in court and in arbitration. It will explore current court trends in allowing/disallowing expert evidence in private law children cases, focusing on specific problems:
• Psychiatrists or psychologists? Adult psychiatrist or child psychiatrist? ISW or Cafcass?
• Therapists and confidentiality
• Which disciplines to target
• Once the expert is ordered, how do you get the most from them – timely questions and avoiding pitfalls
